Stranded calf rescued from water

Fire crews rescued a calf which was stranded in water near a weir in Wilmslow yesterday.

One fire engine from Wilmslow and one fire engine from Knutsford together with the specialist animal rescue team were called to Stanneylands Road just before 2.30pm on Sunday, 13th January.

The crews found the animal in a calm state and once the specialist team had arrived two crew members entered the water on tethered lines and walked the calf approximately 50 metres upstream where crews using an animal sling were able to pull it from the river up an embankment. The calf was then handed over to the care of the farmer.
