School engagement project is a success

A project to educate primary school children about the role of the police has proved to be a success.

The 'Cop Stars' scheme is targeted at Year 6 pupils and involves Police Community Support Officers going into schools to speak directly to pupils.

PCSO Gareth Harding of Wilmslow Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "The project runs for the whole school year and is a fantastic way for local officers to engage with young people.

"The pupils learn about the impact of bullying, internet safety, stranger danger and other topics.

"They can collect cards with advice on them and pictures relating to the police that children have designed themselves."

The project was set up in 2011 and piloted at Lacey Green Academy before being rolled out across the rest of Cheshire.

It is now being used at Wilmslow Grange Primary School and Styal Primary School.
